We had something similar happen a few years ago when our oldest decided to jump off a stool - into the bathroom door jamb - and got a 1.5" gash in his forehead. Our ER visit was not nearly as pleasant as yours (although Munchkin did think he was a dragon waking up, which was pretty funny). It is really freaky to watch stitches going into your kiddo's flesh though. I had stitches three times as a kid and never thought about it much, but as a Mom... *shudder*

I'd be interested to hear if you were given any other instructions for scar care - Munchkin's still hasn't faded and it's been a two and a half years now... :PAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01210061012692204752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049372750679772052.post-27131588272490144422014-08-24T15:09:26.150-04:002014-08-24T15:09:26.150-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18349011727942441150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049372750679772052.post-41807278831110169372014-08-24T06:59:58.216-04:002014-08-24T06:59:58.216-04:00I agree with this and have noticed it myself. When he was on the field, he was all over the place, but once in goal, he was focused and determined. He also turned out to be one of the best goalies on the team. I think the fact that he had his own space, could watch everything around him and needed to focus on one thing: stop the ball from going into the net, kept him on his game. His dad told me he was the same in wrestling.

I think anything is worth a shot and you never know, it could be successful.

As for this snow....I love it, but seriously, we are in the middle of scheduling the 8th graders for next year. But, but, my co-workers and I have a lot to do in the guidance office this time of the year! Delaying it doesn't make anything easier!

I'm not a parent, so honestly, I don't know what the right or wrong thing is to tell a child about death. I do believe it is better to be honest, but to choose your words carefully. I don't think it's unusual for a four year old to ask such hard questions or to worry that something is going to happen. It's a tough topic and from the sounds of it, you handled it beautifully.

As for the kiddo and coping skills....that's tough and it's hard to say what the cause is. It could be any number of things. In my experience with my nephews and working with the big kids in the high school, what's most important is to hold firm. You can acknowledge the disappointment they may have, but don't allow them to take over. It's a frustrating and difficult lesson to learn, but one that if you stick to it, it will work in the long run. I hope the vest continues to help and school days continue to improve!

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12754203580939202091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049372750679772052.post-20427045613240709812014-01-21T00:05:19.691-05:002014-01-21T00:05:19.691-05:00I totally agree, Misty. And we are more fortunate compared to earlier years because, nowadays, there are lots of schools and training programs available that have a proven solution for ADHD and ADD. These programs teach children with ADHD and ADD how to concentrate more and excel academically.

Misty @ StoppingADHD.com
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17078924675894286994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1049372750679772052.post-28255937330309662342013-12-23T08:50:08.915-05:002013-12-23T08:50:08.915-05:00James is addicted to television now. If it were up to me( which I know it is but I also know that our kids are my parents only grandchildren) I would have not brainwashed Peter and James with Santa. It's a lie. it's a fun lie but it's still a lie. Peter wanted a puppy from Santa, but we said NO. Santa does not give alive things. Only toys. I feel like I am fucking doomed with the toy guns. James builds them out of Bristle Blocks. WTF. Peter talks about them sometimes and I told him that we don't use them. And then in a moment of absolute GLEE I told him that only people who are not smart enough to solve their own problems use a real gun. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH SUCK MY BALLS NRA. It's hard when they are everywhere. Those things are 100% forbidden here, including water guns. And yet they still build them out of legos sometimes. I don't think giving him one is a wrong choice. It's not like you bought him Call of Duty, and if he uses it the way you say then YEEHA awesome. And if he doesn't, teachable moooooment for kiddo.
